In the penny laboratory activity, students transform ordinary copper pennies
into "gold" pennies. The transformation follows the elements in a column
in the periodic table - copper transforms into "silver" and then transfoms
into"gold".
Students are challenged to prove or disprove that the pennies actually
changed from one metal to another.
