Using the Internet is an excellent way to stay in touch with your students.  You can provide your students with up to date information, online abstracts and full text articles, papers, national and state organization's information, and many other useful Internet links that can be used to supplement your course. Besides using my own web site, I like using  the online course authoring tool Blackboard (Bb).  The program Blackboard helps the instructor organize course information into a web site that students can log onto.  Some of the powerful tools of Bb are the online quiz , discussion boards and the posting of grades feature. To develop these tools using a typical web site would be very difficult, thus Bb helps make the online access easier.  Even if you are an experienced web site developer, using Bb in the classroom will provide features that will make designing an online course easier to do. veilig werken

I use Bb in my classes to do the following :

• post general class announcements
• provide articles  and Internet links for my students to read
• use anonymous surveys to gather data about my class
• use quizzes to assess my students
• get statistics on my quiz (question by question analysis)
• have students post articles (and/or homework) in the discussion board (other students are to read them and comment on them)
• offer virtual chat room office hours (i.e. late evening)
• use electronic journals (KLW) to get a feel of how the students are thinking about the topics we are discussing
• post students' grades

Go to our SSHE support web page read the instructions on this page and download the instructors blackboard manual and begin reading areas of interest.
You will need to go to the SSHE center for the distance education web site and fill out a courseware application form.  Make sure that you select blackboard account.
Once you have an account, you will need to log in.  Go to the log in page.
Once you are in your blackboard site, select  the control panel.  This is where the instructor can add text, documents, information and links to their web site.  I suggest that you add an announcement and begin a forum in the discussion board.
